PROMINENT businessman Alex Mashamhanda has moved to assist struggling sungura musician Sugar Sugar, by offering him a venue to perform for free.
Following the kind gesture, Sugar Sugar will launch his 12th album at Mashamhanda’s Mashwede Village in Harare on December 9.
Apart from availing his venue for the singer’s album launch, the businessman has also allocated Sugar Sugar a weekly Friday slot at the popular venue.
He also promised to give the musician money to record his music.
The businessman’s intervention came after The Sunday Mail Society published an article highlighting Sugar Sugar’s predicament.
Sugar Sugar thanked this publication for helping open new avenues for him.
“I do not know what to say, and how to thank you guys.
“I was dead and buried, but you resurrected me.
“The article that you did on me opened doors and I am very grateful,” said the Buhera-born musician.
Other businesspersons and fellow artistes also came forward and promised to help the singer.
Among the businessmen that offered to help Sugar Sugar are Mr Jeremiah Hove, the owner of Lofombo Bus Company and music promoter Munyaradzi “Goldfinger” Makombora, of Goldfinger Promotions.
Musician Alick Macheso pledged to incorporate the musician during his live shows.
Sugar Sugar also got similar offers from fellow musicians Mark Ngwazi, Chief Hwenje and Peter Moyo.
Titled “Kudzoka kwe Sugar,” the new album consists of seven tracks namely: “Chii Chakadaro,” “Aphirikede,” “Mairosi Uchandibaisa,” “Gudugu Ngeineyi,” “Kudzoka Kwe Sugar,” “Murudo Murudo,” and “Vanogona.”
