SHEASHAM coach Lizwe Sweswe has bemoaned discord that has characterised the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League’s Match Day 27 fixtures, which he believes is affecting the work coaches have put in.
Speaking ahead of his side’s visit to CAPS United on Sunday, Sweswe noted with concern that the on-off scenario around the PSL games is impacting negatively on their preparations.
Ironically, there was chaos surrounding their reverse fixture against CAPS United after they failed to turn up for a match scheduled at a neutral venue — Mandava Stadium — following controversy surrounding the suitability of their home ground, Bata Stadium, to honest PSL matches.
Earlier this week, the PSL confirmed the weekend matches before announcing they had been shelved to pave the way for a proposed international friendly tie between Zimbabwe and Botswana.
However, when ZIFA failed to secure the friendly, the PSL immediately reinstated fixtures.
“We are preparing for the match, yes, but obviously the confusion around fixtures affects how we prepare for these games,” Sweswe said.
“There are things we tell the boys when preparing for matches. The games were postponed and now they are back on; that affects us because it is difficult to tune the boys back into mode.”
Despite the confusion, Sweswe said he is expecting a tough afternoon in Harare.
Since July, CAPS United have been forced to play their home matches at Bata.
But with the re-opening of the National Sports Stadium, they will be back at their preferred home ground on Sunday.
“CAPS have been using Bata Stadium and now they are in Harare; it is to their advantage due to the travelling strains on our part,” added Sweswe.
“It has not had much effect on us, because we knew from the onset that it was the normal situation, so we have to travel and give it a fight.
“Games will not be easy when playing away from home because there is a difference, but we will try and give our best when we go to Harare.”
Both teams are tied on 30 points ahead of their clash, with only goal difference separating them.
CAPS United sit on 12th position, while Sheasham are a rung below.
