SELF-PROCLAIMED prophetess Ruramai Nhapata (59) and her colleague Smollar Chazireni (43) have been arrested for violating a corpse.

It is alleged that Ruramai and Smollar stretched a corpse’s hands and legs, and massaged it as they tried to resurrect it.

The man had died upon admission at a local hospital after collapsing at a house in Westlea, Harare.

Police spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi confirmed the incident.

“The suspects approached staff at a local funeral parlour and claimed that the victim was not dead before forcibly taking the body,” he said in a statement.

“They began to pray for the victim while massaging the body, as well as stretching the hands and legs.”

Police said the body spent the whole night on the floor outside the mortuary while the suspects were reportedly praying to resurrect the deceased.
