PACESETTERS Tenax tightened their grip on top spot in the ZIFA Eastern Region Division One league after getting the better of city rivals Buffaloes 1-0 in a local derby contest played at Sakubva Stadium on Sunday.
A Simon Munemero strike at the stroke of half-time carried the day for the prisons and correctional outfit to condemn the army side to their third defeat of the season.
Tenax have amassed 25 points from 11 games and hold a one-point lead over second-placed FC Wangu Mazodze who beat Manica Diamonds 2-0.
The prisons wardens have been in terrific form in the last five games, which has seen them win three matches on the trot while drawing and losing one.
Bikita Minerals (22), Mutare City Rovers (20) and Buffaloes (20) complete the top 5.
GushaBhora beat Chiredzi Stars to keep their title hopes alive.
Rusape-based Midway also emerged 1-0 victorious away at Renco Mine, while the junior Gem boys continue singing the blues and remain stuck second from bottom of the table.
