“You need to pass through a thorough test for you to give a testimony. I went through that,” said Dr Afra Nhanhanga, the chief executive officer CAG Travellers Coaches, at The Herald High Tea that was held on Saturday afternoon.

“I know what it means to be a widow. I know what it means to be a single mother. I know what it means to be remarried again.”

At the age of 22, she become the very first bus conductor of CAG, a role that defied norms at the time.

Saturday’s event ran under the theme “Pouring power and purpose”.

“I know what it means to be degraded in the industry, to be chased out of meetings because you are a woman,” Dr Nhanhanga added.

“But today, I am really happy with what I passed through. I passed through fire for me to be refined.”

Her father, Golden Nhanhanga, who is now CAG Travellers Coaches director, founded the family business.

CAG now has a fleet of over 360 buses, employing over a thousand people.

Self-development coach Ms Jessie Mhaka urged attendees to prioritise their mental well-being, advocating positive thinking.

Award-winning attorney Mr Arthur Marara challenged the notion of gender as a barrier.

“Money has nothing to do with gender,” he said.

“You are responsible for your own happiness.”

Giving her vote of thanks, The Herald Editor Mrs Victoria Ruzvidzo emphasised the transformative power of networking and investment in personal and professional growth.

“Today I learned a lot from each and every speaker, with life transforming words,” she said.

Looking ahead, Mrs Ruzvidzo revealed The Herald’s plans to make the High Tea events a monthly fixture, building on the strong foundation that has been laid.

“This is the beginning, but we started on a solid foundation,” she said.

“A house that is built on a solid foundation will stand. So, we have started on a very solid foundation, and we are going to go higher and higher.”
