THE second edition of The Manica Post Ladies Summer School lived up to its top billing, attracting attendance from enthusiastic participants from across Manicland province.
The event, which was held at Murambi East Villa yesterday, aims to empower women through a series of seminars focusing on personal development, inheritance and property rights, retirement plans, entrepreneurship as well as health and wellness.
In her welcome remarks, The Manica Post editor Mrs Wendy Nyakurerwa- Matinde said the core objective of the Ladies Summer School is to bring together women from all walks of life and equip them with knowledge and skills that will enable them to fulfill their full potential.
She emphasised the importance of continuous learning and self-improvement.
The event ran under the theme “You Are Royalty.”
“As a family newspaper, The Manica Post is a responsible corporate citizen that is playing its part in ensuring that women have all the information they need to take care of their health and to build their businesses, big or small,” said Mrs Nyakurerwa-Matinde.
“We encourage women to go for whatever they want. If it is a business they want, they have to get up and start that instant as there is no room for crybabies at the top.”
While giving her keynote presentation, businesswoman Mrs Sue Peters encouraged the women to be business-minded and keep standing firm with their business plans.
“Run your own mile; do not desire to be understood by anybody. Be yourself and do not mind what anybody else is saying behind your back. Above all, be humble and have humility,” she said.
Mrs Angela Ndedzu from National Social Security Authority (NSSA) unpacked nuggets on retirement plans, while legal practitioner, Miss Rumbidzai Newengo led an interactive discussion on inheritance and property rights.
Former Miss Zimbabwe 2007, Mrs Caroline Marufu-Buwu excited participants with her presentation on grooming and deportment.
Sister Chengetai Chibwana of Island Hospice also took her turn in educating the women on breast cancer.
