DARING thieves recently pounced at Marange High School’s girls hostels and stole foodstuffs, blankets and cash.

The thieves, who are still at large, broke into the girls’ hostel when the learners were attending a church revival service at the school hall on a Sunday afternoon.

According to information gathered by this publication, the thieves got entry into the hostel through the back of the hostels.

They allegedly stole items such as foodstuffs, a trunk, a blanket and US$20.

The school head, Mr Willian Chimombe, confirmed the development, saying he communicated with the parents of the affected children before he referred all questions to Manicaland Provincial Education Director, Mr Edward Shumba.

“I am yet to be furnished with finer details of the matter. I will get back to you once I get more information,” said Mr Shumba.

Some parents and guardians with learners enrolled at the school said they only learnt about the incident through a WhatsApp group.

The incident left the parents querying if the school security guards who are supposed to superintend all safety activities were alert.

One of the parents interviewed, Mr Emmanuel Maposa, who has a child who was also affected said he was aware of the incident, saying maximum security will be ensured to avoid future scenarios.

“We learnt about the incident after one of the school authorities alerted us in a WhatsApp group that comprises parents and guardians with children enrolled at the school. All parents with affected children were alerted and we were concerned about the issue. We hope the situation will be rectified and ensure maximum security for the learners,” he said.
