NEW: Tobacco farmers walk away with US$403m

Tobacco farmers have taken home US$403 million after delivering 134 million kgs to both the auction and contract floors as at Day 47 of the marketing season, latest statistics from the Tobacco Industry and Marketing Board (TIMB) show. 

Over the comparable period in 2021, 152 million kgs had been sold. 

Of the 134 million kgs sold so far, 125 million kgs were sold at contract floors and the balance were delivered at auction floors. 

The highest price achieved to date is US$6,80 per kg (at the contract floors), while the lowest price was $0,10 per kg.
