NEW: Tobacco sales top US$841m

Tobacco sales have so far generated US$841 million, representing a marked increase from US$558 million in the same period a year ago.

The Tobacco Industry and Marketing Board (TIMB) said 278 million kg of the golden leaf were sold at an average US$3 per kg.

Auction floors have taken delivery of 19 million kg, while contractors received 258 million kg.

The highest price achieved to date is US$6,10 per kg, while the lowest is US$0,10 per kg.
