SHURUGWI Town Council has appointed Mr Archibald Ncube as its new town secretary, a move aimed at strengthening administrative leadership and driving development initiatives in the mining town.
Councillor Fanuel Machiya, the Town Council chairperson, confirmed Mr Ncube’s appointment, praising his exemplary leadership skills demonstrated during his probationary period.
“The new Town Secretary has done well during his probation period and transformed the outlook of this town,” Cllr Machiya said.
“During his probation, Mr Ncube oversaw the completion of a trunk sewer line linking the town to Manzimudhaka and connecting suburbs such as Mambowa to the main system.”
Mr Ncube had been on probation since May before his confirmation as substantive Town Secretary.
Cllr Machiya noted that Mr Ncube has been tasked with driving the local authority’s vision for a smart city, which aims to provide quality service delivery and enhance the overall quality of life for residents.
“One of his main tasks is to take Shurugwi to municipality status and ensure that we embrace the smart city concept,” he said.
Cllr Machiya said Mr Ncube’s appointment brings a wealth of experience to the council.
He expressed optimism about his leadership.
“Shurugwi is focusing on improving service delivery, including ensuring residents have access to clean water, upgrading infrastructure, addressing housing shortages and promoting small businesses because we are aiming to become a model smart city with quality service delivery within five years,” he said.
Mr Ncube pledged his commitment to ushering in a new era of progress, collaboration and community-focused leadership for the benefit of Shurugwi, in line with Vision 2030.
“Our objective is to make Shurugwi an upper-middle-class town by 2030,” he stated.
Mr Ncube said development plans include expanding Shurugwi’s boundaries by another 10km.
“This extension aims to accommodate more residents and facilitate housing projects, promoting growth and development in the area,” he said.
“Let us work together to build a better Shurugwi by focusing on progress and positivity, and transforming it into a thriving economy.”
Mr Ncube said water provision is also one of his key priorities, adding that residents must always have access to clean water all the time.
“This will be complemented by infrastructure development, including the rehabilitation of equipment, replacement of old water pipes and installation of sewer systems in suburbs that are still lagging,” he said.
