Speaker of Parliament Advocate Jacob Mudenda and his delegation, who are on a visit to Japan, have met with the chairperson of the Japan-African union Parliamentary Friendship Association, Yamagiwa Daishiro, and the president of the House of Councillors, Masakazu Sekiguchi, where they discussed various issues of mutual interest.
Zimbabwe’s Ambassador to Japan, Mr Stewart Nyakotyo, also attended the meeting.
Adv Mudenda is in Japan to strengthen parliamentary and economic ties between the two countries.
“In welcoming Advocate Mudenda and his delegation, Mr Yamagiwa noted that Speaker Mudenda’s visit is taking place on the backdrop of the 9th Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD9) and Expo 2025 Osaka platforms aimed at enhancing mutually beneficial relations between Japan and African Parliaments,” read part of a statement from Parliament.
“In buttressing the significance of TICAD and Expo 2025 Osaka Expo, Advocate Mudenda highlighted that multilateralism is pivotal in enhancing socio-economic relations between African countries and Japan.”
Parliament said in furtherance of international diplomacy, President Mnangagwa has visited Japan on two separate occasions over the past two months, firstly to attend Expo 2025 Osaka and the TICAD9.
“Turning to possible areas of cooperation between Zimbabwe and Japan, Honourable Yamagiwa underscored that Zimbabwe is endowed with rich natural resources as well as abundant tourist attractions which can further Zimbabwe’s economic development,” read the statement.
