Under the theme “Our Identity, Our Pride — Engraving Our Culture and Heritage Through Generations”, the festival drew thousands of attendees and featured a line-up that spanned generations of Zimbabwean musical talent, alongside guest artistes from Malawi.

What the festival demonstrated—beyond the undeniable power of the mbira’s spiritual and historical resonance—was that Zimbabwe possesses both the appetite and the infrastructure for cultural events of international standing. Heritage Village provided the stage, but the performance belonged to a nation reclaiming and celebrating its narrative.

This is no small achievement. In an era where globalised culture threatens to homogenise local identities, spaces that actively preserve, showcase and celebrate indigenous heritage become vital. They are not merely entertainment venues; they are institutions of cultural memory and transmission.

Yet Heritage Village’s significance extends beyond the symbolic.
