NEW: Traffic blitz arrests near 100 000

THE ongoing traffic blitz codenamed “Tame the Traffic Jungle” has netted 99 738 offenders.

In a statement on Wednesday, the Zimbabwe Republic Police said: “The cumulative number of arrests has reached 99 738 during the ongoing operation.”

Police said 2 346 arrests were made for vehicles without route permits, while 30 102 arrests were made on illegal pirate taxis.

Since the operation began, 1 875 vehicles have been impounded for moving on the roads with no registration plates and 467 motorists have been arrested for reckless driving.
