Treasury will institute policy reforms to address bottlenecks in public infrastructure, Finance and Economic Development Minister Professor Mthuli Ncube has said.
While tabling the Zimbabwe Infrastructure Investment Programme (ZIIP) in Parliament last week, Professor Ncube said in the era of globalisation, there was need to look at infrastructure provision holistically.
“Such reforms will include development of a strong conceptual framework for mainstreaming climate change into the different phases of infrastructure projects, addressing weaknesses in procurement processes, contract management, value for money and other project delivery challenges,” he said.
Professor Ncube said while focusing on infrastructure investment in the country, there is also need to focus on cross-border infrastructure.
“As a nation, there is a need to consider not only investment in-country, but also encompass cross-border infrastructure.
“This can be accelerated by identifying appropriate modalities and options for strengthening the role of regional cooperation in all areas of infrastructure development,” he said.
