THE ZIFA Eastern Region Division One marathon is turning out to be a two-horse race between early pacesetters, GreenFuel and Mutare City Rovers.

After winning their respective fixtures by an identical 1-0 last weekend, the two sides maintained their top spots in the second-tier league.

GreenFuel edged Manica Diamonds Juniors, while Mutare City Rovers overcame Zaka Academy in their own backyard.

The Chisumbanje-based side top the log with 35 points from 15 games, while the municipality outfit sit second two points adrift with the same number of matches.

Masvingo United are the duo’s closest chasing rivals and trail Mutare City Rovers by five points.

Former Premiership side, Buffaloes were victorious at home to Grayham, a result that catapulted them into seventh position.

As it stands, it is looking likely that another team from Manicaland will be promoted into the elite league.
