A Harare man has appeared in court on charges of raping his 17-year-old niece, on two separate occasions.

Frank Muchagoneyi appeared before Magistrate Dennis Mangosi at Rotten Row Courts on charges of rape as defined in section 65 of the Criminal Law (Codification and Reform) Act [Chapter 9:23].

Prosecutor, Mr Anesu Chirenje, told the court that the man had sexual intercourse with his niece in Glen View without her consent on two separate occasions last month.

“On the 6th of November around 1500 hours, the accused person went to the complainant’s place of residence where he found the victim in the company of her brother while the mother was not home.

“The accused requested to watch soccer on a television, which was in the victim’s mother’s bedroom; however, some minutes later requested the victim to prepare tea for him.

“It is around this time that the brother left to play outside and taking advantage of that, the uncle raped the victim,” said Mr Chirenje.

On another day, the accused talked to the victim’s mother who told him that she was at a party and would not return home until the following day.

Taking advantage, he proceeded to the victim’s place, who was alone at home, and forced her into the latrine and raped her before threatening her.

The accused has been denied bail.
