UNICEF Zimbabwe has launched the Communication Campaign on Adolescents, which seeks to highlight the situations of adolescents and their power as actors of change in their communities to address their needs.

Said UNICEF Zimbabwe communications director Mr Yves Willemot:

“Our aim is to support national efforts of the Government of Zimbabwe to advance the development and participation of adolescents aged 10 to 19 in matters affecting them and to ensure adolescents, especially girls and those living with disabilities and the most vulnerable, are reached.”

Mrs Jacqueline Kabambe, chief of HIV/AIDS and Adolescent Development and Participation at UNICEF Zimbabwe said:

“Adolescents in Zimbabwe face multiple deprivations, in that 22 percent of adolescent girls aged 15 to 19 have begun childbearing.

“One-third of the maternal deaths are among adolescents, and through this campaign our thrust is to change the background for the better.”
