NEW: Uprising Cricket Club maintains unbeaten run in NPL

UPRISING Cricket Club maintained their fine run in the National Cricket Premier League after they cruised to a five-wicket victory over Scorpions at Takashinga Sports Club on Wednesday.

The Chitungwiza-based outfit sits at the summit of the 14-team log standings with 70 points after seven rounds of matches.

It remains the only unbeaten team in the league.

However, the victory was not as easy as the numbers would suggest, as Scorpions came out firing from the onset.

After winning the toss and electing to bat first, Scorpions had a fine outing with the bat, as the second-wicket partnership of Jayden Schadendorf and Blessed Muzite put 162 runs off 198 balls.

The partnership was broken in the 40th over, when Muzite was dismissed for 72 runs from 113 balls.

Scorpions, however, suffered a free-fall of wickets and could only muster a modest 238-run total for the loss of nine wickets in their allotted 50 overs.

In their chase, Uprising got off to the ideal start as Tariro Makauyo scored 74 off 44 balls, which featured a six and 13 fours.

Uprising were able to chase the target in 44 overs and only lost five wickets.
