MASVINGO is set to establish a US$400 000 infectious diseases hospital in line with its quest to achieve world-class city status by 2030.
Masvingo City Town Clerk Engineer Edward Mukaratirwa says the planned hospital will be built on two hectares of land adjacent the sprawling Morningside suburb.
“Designs for the hospital have already been completed and the facility will cost around US$385 000,” said Eng Mukaratirwa.
“The health facility dovetails with our plan to become a modern world-class city by 2030.”
The envisaged facility is expected to complement Masvingo Provincial Hospital, which is increasingly getting overwhelmed as it serves both Masvingo and the province as the health referral institution.
Masvingo’s population has been rapidly expanding over the past few years, with the number of residents estimated to be over 120 000, according to conservative estimates.
This growing population has been putting pressure on health facilities in the city.
