Vice President Dr Constantino Chiwenga has underscored the importance of fiscal responsibility and accountability in the execution of construction projects.

He was speaking at the ground-breaking ceremony of the new Procurement Regulatory Authority of Zimbabwe (PRAZ) head office in Harare this morning.

PRAZ is using rented premises in Harare and they have now contracted Zimbuild Property Investments to build their head office in Mt Pleasant.

The project is set to be completed within 18 months after today’s ground-breaking.

The Vice President was addressing PRAZ officials and the contractor involved in the construction of the new head office, reminding them that taxpayers’ money must be used wisely and responsibly.

“Let me take this opportunity to emphasise that this project is being financed through public resources – taxes paid by the hardworking citizens of Zimbabwe,” said VP Chiwenga.

“With that in mind, it is our duty to ensure that every dollar is spent judiciously and in a way that delivers maximum value to the public. This building must not only fulfil its functional role, but also embody our collective commitment to responsible governance and sustainable development.

“I am particularly pleased to highlight that the design of this new facility incorporates sustainability principles and energy-efficient technologies.”

VP Chiwenga encouraged the contractor to uphold high standards of workmanship and ethical practices throughout the construction period.

His address served as a reminder of the broader implications of the project, which aims to bolster Zimbabwe’s procurement systems while contributing to local economic growth.

He expressed confidence that the collaborative efforts of PRAZ and the contractors would lead to the successful completion of the head office, ultimately benefiting all Zimbabweans.
