NEW: Warriors in sluggish start

Online Reporter

ZIMBABWE got off to a sluggish start to their 2022 World Cup qualifying campaign when they were held to a 0-0 draw by South Africa at the National Sports Stadium on Friday.

Missing a host of star players mainly from England, including Aston Villa midfielder Marvelous Nakamba, due Covid-19 travel restrictions, Zimbabwe struggled for the better part of the match and only had one shot on target during the entire contest.

That single shot on target came from Khama Billiat, whose rising shot was parried over the bar by Supersport United keeper, Ronwen Williams.

France-based striker Tino Kadewere was hauled off after 58 minutes because of injury.

The Olympic Lyon striker could possibly miss the away match against Ethiopia on Tuesday.

Kadewere was replaced by Orlando Pirates forward Terrence Dzvukamanja, who showed some grit, while Tafadzwa Rusike also came on for Kuda Mahachi.
