MEDIA has been urged to work professionally and engage stakeholders in reporting and tackling critical issues that affect Africa such as illicit financial flows and tax evasions.
Addressing media and stakeholders at a multi-stakeholder conference on illicit financial flows on Tuesday, MISA Zimbabwe chairperson, Mr Golden Maunganidze, who was represented by MISA Zimbabwe Trustee, Mr Kelvin Jakachira, said: “The media, working together with relevant stakeholders is a critical component in the fight to stem illicit financial flows and tax evasions which bleed Africa of US$88,6 billion a year, representing 3,7 percent of its Gross Domestic Product (GDP), according to the Economic Development in Africa Report 2020 by the UN Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD),” he said.
According to Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (ZACC), in 2019 Zimbabwe lost an estimated US$3 billion to illicit financial flows.
Stakeholders attending the event include representatives from ZACC, Judicial Services Commission and National Prosecuting Authority among others.
