NEW: Youths demand pound of flesh in construction

YOUTHS under the aegis of the Zimbabwe Building Contractors Association (ZBCA) are demanding a stake in Government tenders in the construction and engineering sector.

Engineer Gerald Gwabvira, the ZBCA member in charge of the youth desk, told The Sunday Mail that youths in construction and engineering feel marginalised.

“Over the years, we have been on a soul-searching exercise as we sought ways that would result in us being recognised. From the deliberations that we had, we decided to come up with one, robust voice that will represent the interests of the youths in construction and engineering,” he said.

The youth desk has since incorporated brick moulders, carpenters, pavers, suppliers of construction equipment, contractors and engineers that are under the age of 40.

Forty-eight youths that are affiliated with the ZBCA are owners of construction and engineering companies.
