NEW: Bhunu through to quarterfinals in Tunisia

ZIMBABWE tennis ace Valeria Bhunu eased into the quarterfinal of the ITF Tunisia 26A, this after dispatching Switzerland’s Arlinda Rushiti 6-3. 6-0 on Thursday.

The 26-year-old only needed one hour and 13 minutes to dispatch of the seventh-ranked swiss, and will now meet American Elizabeth Mandlik for a place in the final four.

Bhunu is currently on a nine-game winning streak, during which she also claimed the ITF Tunisia 25A leg after dispatching of Japan’s Saki Imamura 6-2, 6-2 during last Sunday’s final.

Bhunu is one of the country’s top female tennis prospects, and is currently ranked 1 213 on the International Tennis Federation.

Her highest Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) singles’ ranking remains 497, which she attained back in November 2016.

Her highest ITF singles ranking is 289 (May 2019).

She currently has an 83 percent win rate during the 2021 season, and this includes 24 wins and five losses.
