Youth representatives from various political parties have endorsed the Zimbabwe Youth Charter on Peace in the Electoral Processes and the Youth Peace Pledge.
The endorsement took place at an event convened by 4-H Foundation in Harare on Thursday.
There were representatives from ZANU PF, FREEZIM Congress, MDC-T, Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) and student union leaders.
The charter seeks to create, promote and coordinate youth inclusion and active participation in peaceful electoral processes.
4-H Zimbabwe Foundation director Mr John Muchenje said the desire for sustainable peace has seen their organisation engage in various peace initiatives.
“After an extensive crafting process and engagements with political parties’ legal teams, leaders, members; Parliamentary Youth Caucus; Ministry of Youth, Sport, Arts and Recreation; Zimbabwe Electoral Commission and churches, the organisation has successfully come up with a final document – Zimbabwe Youth Charter on Peace in the Electoral Processes and the Youth Peace Pledge – for consideration, adoption and endorsement by the political parties, their affiliates and other key peace stakeholders ahead of 2023 harmonised elections,” he said.
“This is a new era in Zimbabwe’s political field as young people have taken the lead in the promotion of intra-party and inter-party peace processes.”
