THE Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (ZACC) says it has noted the recent withdrawal of charges by the National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe (NPAZ) against several City of Harare employees, including town clerk Engineer Hosiah Chisango, who were allegedly involved in a controversial US$9 million streetlights tender.
In a statement released on Tuesday, ZACC acknowledged the NPAZ’s authority to manage criminal prosecutions in Zimbabwe, emphasising the importance of respecting the authority’s decisions.
“ZACC has taken note of the withdrawal of charges against City of Harare employees Hosiah Chisango (town clerk), Never Murerwa (supply chain manager), Denford Zhungu (principal accountant), Tawanda Mutenhabundo (engineering technician) and Artkins Mandaza (principal contracts administrator) by the National Prosecuting Authority in a US$9 million streetlights tender case.
“The NPA withdrew charges against five accused persons and only indicted Harare City Council principal buyer Jabulani Mukomazi,” ZACC said.
However, the commission maintained that the accused persons were criminally liable for the fraudulent awarding of the tender and should defend their actions in court.
