The Zimbabwe Electricity Supply Authority (Zesa) has penned four memoranda of understanding (MoUs) with the Rwanda Energy Group (REG) that will see the two entities sharing insights and technical expertise on how to serve their respective countries.
The energy sector was one of the focal areas when a delegation from the Rwandan public sector and business visited Zimbabwe for a three-day trade conference, which ended on Wednesday.
Speaking at the final event of the conference, ZimTrade chief executive officer Mr Allan Majuru said the synergies are set to improve power generation in both countries.
“Zesa signed four MoUs of implementation on issues to do with transmission, electricity generation, trade and export of transformers as well as learning best practice,” said Mr Majuru.
He said there are other deals that were entered into by businesses, where involved parties took a direct approach and exchanged invoices instead of MoUs.
Rwandan head of delegation and Rwanda Development Board deputy chief executive officer Mr Zephanie Niyonkuru said: “The MoUs between the two companies were focused on ensuring that Zesa and REG exchange knowledge, help each other to get equipment as well as assist each other with transmission.”
Both ZimTrade and RDB, he added, will work on a mechanism to monitor the agreements and ensure they play a part in the facilitation works that may be needed.
A number of Rwandan business executives decided to stay behind to further explore available opportunities.
