Leonard “Karikoga” Zhakata, will on Friday perform at Eastpoint (formerly Jazz 105) as part of his birthday celebration preparations.

Zhakata turns 56 on June 25.

Suggest “Zharend” Gwatidzo, who manages Zhakata’s affairs, said the Zora music legend will sample new songs from his yet-to-be-released album.

“Zhakata is set to release a new six-track album and some of the songs that are on the album will be played tomorrow (Friday),” he said. “Due to an outcry from our fans, we are returning the original Zora beat.”

Wayne Hove, the organiser of the show, said the venue had sentimental value for Zhakata.

“This venue is used by the majority of the country’s top musicians to either celebrate their birthdays or to launch their music,” he said.

“Zhakata, who has performed here before, has fond memories of the highly-subscribed shows.”
