ZIMBABWE heavyweight boxing champion Vincent Muziri’s dream of landing the African Boxing Union (ABU) Southern region heavyweight title went up in smoke after he was knocked out by Ardi Ndembo of Congo-Brazzaville.

The one-sided fight, which was held in Tanzania Thursday night, saw the Zimbabwean being knocked out in the third round.

Promoter Clyde Musonda of Delta Force, who accompanied Muziri to Tanzania, attributed the loss to ring rust.
“My boxer has been inactive due to a number of factors, among them pressure of work and the Covid-19 induced restrictions.

“He will definitely bounce back in the near future,” Musonda, who was speaking from Tanzania, said.

From Tanzania, Musonda will fly straight to Windhoek, Namibia, where Ndodana Ncube, who is also under his stable, is going to face-off with Namibian Jeremiah Nakathila in an eight-round non-title fight.

The match will be held at the Windhoek Country Club on Saturday night.

The main bout in this card, which has been dubbed “Together as One Part 4”, is the potentially explosive encounter featuring Phillipus ‘Energy’ Nghitumbwa against Innocent Mantengu.

The World Boxing Organisation (WBO) Global super bantamweight title will be on the line.

With Ndodana, Musonda is hoping for a change in fortunes.

“Ndodana has been active and is therefore match fit. I am expecting a good fight from him.”

Musonda is a former Zimbabwe national featherweight champion.
