NEW: Zim braces for SARPCCO Games

Coach of the Zimbabwe netball team for the Southern Africa Regional Police Chiefs Cooperation Organisation (SARPCCO) Games, Talent Museka, says his team has made encouraging progress in preparation for the tournament, which is scheduled between September 1 and September 16 in Tanzania.

As the two-time defending champions, Zimbabwe have stepped up their preparations.

Zimbabwe regrouped on June 1 at Morris Depot and have been training since then.

“We are trying to build a team that is stronger than the one we had last time; we know other teams are targeting us in their preparations because we are the title holders, so we need to put up our best act,” said Museka.

“Our advantage is that most of the players play under our flagship team (Mambas), so in terms of building up and combinations, it was not a huge challenge.

“We have a number of friendly matches lined up to help us track progress and identify areas that still need attention and we are happy.”

The Zimbabwe camp is, however, battling some injuries that have affected the goal shooting third.

Despite the injuries, Museka has been putting on a brave face.

“Our two goal shooters are out with injuries and we are not sure if they will be back by the time we travel because they need to be assessed by professionals.

“Despite that, we have already reverted to plan B, so we are still okay and well on course.”
