In a significant move to enhance livestock production and animal health, the government has unveiled a cutting-edge veterinary medicine manufacturing plant in Harare.
Officially opening the Agricura animal health plant on Wednesday, Lands, Agriculture, Fisheries, Water and Rural Development Deputy Minister Davis Marapira emphasised the vital role livestock plays in Zimbabwe’s economy, particularly in agriculture, which forms the backbone of economy.
Agricura is known for providing a range of crop chemicals, grain protectants, veterinary chemicals and pest control services.
“Livestock plays an integral role in the global economy, particularly in a developing nation like Zimbabwe, where agriculture forms the backbone of the economic stability.
“The livestock sector not only contributes significantly to food security and nutrition but also serves as a vital source of income, employment and socio-economic development,” he said.
He said the plant will improve livestock health and production to farmers in both urban and rural areas.
“This-state-of-art manufacturing plant will provide our farmers with access to critical veterinary medicines, ensuring that our animals are healthy, resilient and capable of contributing to the prosperity of our nation,” said Deputy Minister Marapira.
“The plant he said symbolises the commitment to advancing veterinary medicine, enhancing disease control measure and ultimately safeguarding the livelihoods of countless farmers across the country.
TSL chairman, Mr Anthony Mandiwanza said the plant will produce animal remedies for domestic use, exports to other countries and alleviate the need for importing vaccines in Zimbabwe.
