PRESIDENT MNANGAGWA met with a group of prospective investors from the United States on Monday night as well as those already operating in the country.
In an interview with The Herald and ZBC, Finance, Economic Development and Investment Promotion Minister Professor Mthuli Ncube said the objective of the meeting was to communicate that Zimbabwe is open for business.
“His Excellency was very clear to the businesspeople on that message,” he said.
Minister Ncube said they had discussed progress that Zimbabwe has made to date under the Second Republic, with the economy growing exponentially.
“Last year, we had a growth rate of 8,3 percent; this year, it’s been 5 percent, but an economy in full recovery.
“Every sector is performing — agricultural sector, mining sector, manufacturing sector. So the opportunities are right across those sectors.”
During the engagement, Minister Ncube said, each of the businesspeople was able to articulate what sectors they were interested in.
“Some were interested in tourism, some were asking about the mining sector, some were asking about the financial sector.
“But right across there was interest from these billionaires, wealthy people, to investing in Zimbabwe.
“Some of them were already active on the ground, so they were able to share with the newcomers what Zimbabwe is like,” he said.
Victoria Falls International Financial Centre chairperson Mr Marc Holtzman said President Mnangagwa had assured the group of 35 top senior investors about the International Monetary Fund’s good ratings of Zimbabwe, as well as the tremendous reforms being undertaken by the Second Republic in all sectors of the economy.
