NEW: Zimbabwe-Rwanda student exchange on cards

ZIMBABWE and Rwanda are set to sign an agreement for student exchange programmes between the two countries.

The idea, which was mooted at the ongoing Zimbabwe-Rwanda Trade and Investment Conference, is meant to enhance exposure and improve the quality of graduates.

Speaking after a business-to-business session on education, Higher and Tertiary Education, Innovation, Science and Technology Development Permanent Secretary Professor Fanuel Tagwira said a number of promising concessions were mulled and work has begun to turn them into memoranda of understanding (MOUs).

Among these MOUs is the one on exchange programmes, which is set to see Zimbabwean students visiting Rwanda during the course of their studies.

Rwandan students will also have the opportunity to visit Zimbabwe.

“The Honourable Ministers spoke about making sure that students from Rwanda have visits from students from Zimbabwe, so they can be able to work together and benefit from each other.

“We think this is very important because as part of our internationalisation programme, and this ties in perfectly,” said Professor Tagwira.

Harare and Kigali, he added, agreed to tap into each other’s strengths, with Zimbabwe seeking assistance on the internet curricula, while Rwanda took notes on skills development.

Earlier this year, Rwanda expressed interest in employing local teachers.
