Zimbabweans should embrace the new normal occasioned by the coronavirus pandemic and see opportunities for growing the economy through empowering the general populace, a local empowerment lobby group has said.
In its 2021 end-of-year message, Action for Empowerment Zimbabwe (AEZ) said the country has the potential to recover from disruptions caused by the pandemic.
“The Covid-19 pandemic saw a black cloud descending on Zimbabwe … Families lost their loved ones as well as sources of livelihoods. The pandemic is still with us and we urge all Zimbabweans to embrace this as the new normal and diligently adhere to and observe the mandatory health protocols,” said AEZ president Mr Alson Dakarayi.
“AEZ, however, sees a silver lining out of the debilitating effects of the coronavirus scourge as we see opportunities for growing the national economy through empowerment of the critical mass …
“It is no secret though that the walk to empowerment is no stroll in the park and will not be without challenges, man-made and natural. We should take every challenge in our stride and never drop our heads when the chips are down.
“Let’s keep our eyes on the ball as the empowerment body of choice navigates its course through a maze of hurdles without which our organisation would not have a firm and tried and tested foundation.”
The fledgling empowerment group, which will be officially launched at the end of this month, is set to have its founding congress in March.
It will subsequently launch and host the inaugural AEZ Patron’s Charity Super Cup in February in Bulawayo, which will feature the country’s biggest football clubs.
Plans for the inaugural AEZ Patron’s Marathon in the Eastern Highlands in March and the inaugural AEZ Patron’s Golf tournament are already underway.
