The country’s largest media group, Zimbabwe Newspapers (1980) Limited’s 2024 edition of the Zimpapers Cancer Power Walk, was highly subscribed on Saturday.

Participants from across the country took part in the 10km race to raise awareness on cancer.

Speaking at the event, the group’s chief executive officer Mr Pikirayi Deketeke applauded sponsors and participants for making the day a success.

“We thank you for the profound assistance that you rendered and we hope it will change the health and lives of people affected by cancer,” he said.

“The proceeds will be extended to Island Hospice for palliative care, hence we are proud of this partnership.”

Zimpapers’ partner, Island Hospice’s administration and human resources officer, Ms Dorothy Muchowo, said cancer patients needed special care, hence the need for support from their communities.

“We have been working with Zimpapers for more than seven years in fighting cancer and this has enabled us to reach out to some communities in the hard-to-reach areas who dearly need our support,” she said.

“We have been able to buy medication and other necessities.”

This year’s edition was running under the theme: “Walk, Run, Cycle for A Cause”.

Some of the sponsors included Sunny Yi Feng, FBC Bank, NEDBANK, Mutare City Council, Zorro, Harare Oncology Pharmacy, Tyre Club, Munashe High Private School and Lobels.
