NEW: ZimStat trains 40 000 enumerators

Online Reporter

The Zimbabwe National Statistics Agency (ZimStat) has started training enumerators who will be responsible for data collection during the national population and housing census scheduled for next month.

Up to 40 000 enumerators drawn from across the civil service are undergoing training at different stations countrywide under the second phase of training programme.

ZimStat spokesperson, Ms Mercy Chidemo, said:

“This is level two training, which is for the enumerators and supervisors as we prepare for the actual enumeration which is scheduled to run between April 21-30.”

ZimStat will this year deploy a high-tech data collection system — the Computer-Assisted Personal Interviewing (CAPI) — which transmits data collected by enumerators over the internet to a central mainframe in real-time.

As a result, the census exercise will be completed within six months.

Previously, it took the national statistics agency up to two years to collect and process data before producing the final census report.
