The Zimbabwe National Road Administration (Zinara) has roped in financial institutions to augment funding for road maintenance under the next phase of the Emergency Road Rehabilitation Programme (ERRP).
Zinara board chairperson Dr George Manyaya said Zinara was sourcing alternative funding to ensure uninterrupted road works, particularly in local authorities.
Addressing journalists at a press conference in Harare on Tuesday, he said:
“After realising the mismatch between income collection patterns and the rate of road works required, Zinara undertook some innovative steps to also source alternative finding.
“Let me assure you that our plans to increase these budgets are at an advanced stage as we are arranging short-term funding facilities with some local financial institutions.”
He said these facilities are expected to be available for drawdown soon.
“This will allow uninterrupted road works in line with the urgency and scope of work required on our road networks.”
