NEW: ZPCS to get seeds through partnership

Online Reporter

The Zimbabwe Prisons and Correctional Services (ZPCS) has formed a tie-up with seed company Africa Grain Seed (AGS) through which the latter will supply agricultural inputs to prison institutions across the country.

On Thursday, AGS delivered 16 000 vegetable plants and over 100 fruit tree plants to ZPCS at Harare Central Prison at an event graced by ZPCS Commissioner-General Moses Chihobvu.

The event also saw micro-finance institution GetBucks pledge financial solutions for inmates and prison officers.

In an interview on the sidelines of the event, Deputy Commissioner-General Social Ndanga applauded the corporate world for partnering ZPCS.

“Rehabilitation of inmates is not for Government alone or for the Zimbabwe Prisons and Correctional Service, but it should take a collaborative approach where stakeholders come on board and we partner with them.”

AGS vice president Mrs Zandile Nozihle Matiwaza-Denga said they had been working with ZPCS for the past two years.

“As AGS, we have come together with our partners to assist the marginalised and inmates who fall under this category. We have also come to collaborate with ZPCS to explore the area of agro-tech solutions.”

GetBucks chief operations officer Ms Marjorie Madamombe said her organisation will offer financial solutions to inmates and prison officers.
