PREMIERSHIP newsboys Arenel look certain to add the experienced trio of Moses Jackson, Timothy January and Crispen Machisi to their squad for the 2024 Castle Lager Premier Soccer League season.

The trio has been training with Arenel and coaches are considering them as they seek to add some experience to the squad.

Jackson who turns 43 this year played for Chicken Inn for the greater part of his long career.

Machisi has played for Caps United and Bulawayo City in the Premier League while January has played for the likes of Harare City and now defunct How Mine.

Club administrator Juma Phiri is on record as saying the team was in the market for a couple of experienced players given they will be retaining the majority of the team that won them promotion.

Speaking to ‘Zimpapers Sports Hub’ yesterday, Phiri said the plan to add some experience to the team is shaping up.

“The mentioned players are indeed training with us. Nothing concrete is there for now but we will liaise once there are any developments. In terms of our preparations for the season, everything is going according to plan and l can confirm that when the season starts we will be ready to compete,” said Phiri.

From the squad that won them promotion, Arenel is not short of Premiership experience with the likes of former Highlanders midfielders Simon Munawa and Brian Jaravaza in the mix.

Goalkeeper Aaron Ngwenya has also played topflight football at Bulawayo City FC.

In their technical setup, Arenel has also roped in a seasoned coach in Farai Tawachera.

Arenel was forced to look for a new head coach as Kudzayi Mhandire who won the team promotion does not possess the required papers for the role.

Mhandire has since been re-assigned and will be the team manager while Nkosilathi Nkomo will be assistant coach to Tawachera.

Wonder Pepere is the goalkeepers’ coach with Boga Ndebele being the fitness coach.

Tawachera has previously been with the now-defunct Tsholotsho, Bulawayo Chiefs, Bulawayo City and most recently Chicken Inn. – @innocentskizoe.
