A Central Intelligence Organisation (CIO) officer who was arrested on Tuesday for allegedly demanding a US$9 000 bribe from a Chinese businessman has appeared in court.

Harare magistrate George Chivasa postponed the matter to Friday after the accused, Patrick Badza, challenged his placement on remand.

Badza, who works in the Foreign Recruitment Committee (FRC), which is responsible for processing Temporary Employment Permits (TEPs) for foreign employees, is accused of demanding a kickback from the businessman who wanted to process work permits for his employees.

Detectives from the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (Zacc) swooped on Badza at Sam Levy Village following a tip-off.
