THE Government is calling on families with missing relatives in South Africa to come forward and possibly help identify bodies of individuals who died in an accident at Stilfontein Mine in South Africa’s Northwest Province.

In a statement on Wednesday, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Trade’s public diplomacy, communication and advocacy director, Mrs Philisiwe Chidawanyika said several bodies remain unclaimed.

“Several unidentified persons remain unclaimed in mortuaries in South Africa and efforts are underway to ensure that the remains are properly identified so that their families can be notified and the necessary arrangements are made for befitting interment,” she said.

“The Government is committed to supporting affected families in identifying their loved ones and facilitating the repatriation of remains for a dignified burial,” she said.

Members of the public are encouraged to provide photographs, medical or dental records, identification documents, or any distinguishing details that could help confirm identities.
