A Harare teacher has turned to the courts seeking a peace order against a colleague, whom she accuses of trying to undermine her authority and force her out of the school.
Sibongile Mavingire appeared before the Harare Civil Court on Wednesday, filing for a peace order against fellow teacher Tofa Chisero.
In her submission, Mavingire alleged that Chisero has been spreading damaging rumours about her to parents and students.
“He has been bad-mouthing me to the parents, telling them that I don’t know anything, that I’m not educated and also that I’m dull,” said Mavingire.
She further claimed that Chisero had been influencing students against her and asserting control over the school.
“He even tells the students not to listen to me and sends messages to the parents claiming that the school belongs to him,” she said.
“It’s clear that he wants to chase me away, but I won’t let him.”
Chisero denied orchestrating a campaign against Mavingire, refuting allegations of insults and misconduct.
“I want to set the record straight. I did not insult Mavingire,” he said.
“I am a peace-loving person who always strives to maintain harmony and I deny sending any messages to parents.”
Presiding Magistrate Ms Meenal Narotam ruled that both parties must seek legal representation and refrain from any conduct that could be perceived as harassment or threats toward each other.
