NEW: Authorities warn of bogus Zimstat, home affairs officials

The Zimbabwe National Statistics Agency (ZIMSTAT) has warned the public to desist from entertaining individuals visiting private houses and posing as the agency’s officials.

The scammers are allegedly posing as census officials, asking for personal details under false pretenses, in an attempt to deceive unsuspecting individuals.

In a communique on Wednesday, ZimStat communications officer Mr Roland Chiringa said they do not conduct unannounced visits to collect personal identification details.

“Zimstat officers on official duty will be easily identifiable by their Government-issued credentials,” reads part of the statement.

The Agency said if anyone posing as their official fails to present valid credentials, members of the public are urged to report to the nearest police station.
