Next christmas:What we must do

Life issues with FGK

CHRISTMAS has come and gone and I am sure we all did our level best to provide the extra goodies for our families to enjoy on this special day.
Since our earnings are different, the amount of time that we spend in preparation for this special day therefore differs.

After eating more, going out and indulging in activities that created long lasting memories, the dust has finally settled. I feel that after partaking in all these things, there is a lot more that we should have done.

I am therefore going to share with you and give tips on what you ought to include in your next Christmas.

But first things first, let us understand what Christmas is all about. Christmas is a day in which Christians and non-Christians alike celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ.

Although the exact date is debatable, the early church in the Fourth century fixed the date on December the 25th.

Christians worldwide have therefore accepted this day as it is also the most plausible date on the Gregorian calendar, which has been adopted by all civil calendars of almost all countries worldwide.

Some say Christmas celebrations started in Rome in 336 but did not become as major as it is until the ninth century.

From then on, the festival began to spread worldwide, starting with England, Germany and the United States of America.

For Christians, the celebration of Christmas in remembrance of the coming of Jesus Christ to this world is more important than debating about dates, history and doctrine. The celebration of Jesus’s birth by everyone is also an affirmation of the truth that God came in human flesh to live amongst us, to love, to give life, and to atone the sin of humanity.

So, now that we know that Jesus is the reason for the season, we ought to emulate his life and principles as we celebrate the coming Christmas holiday, this coming year.

We must embrace his message and remember his primary role in our lives, not only as believers but also as humans.

Today’s discussion is therefore not only for Christians or church goers.

The fact is that Jesus Christ is not for Christians only. He is for the human race. We must therefore remind each other to embrace his teachings, which have nothing to do with doctrine, church denomination or whatever categories people put themselves in.

People from across the world, who are in different religions, celebrate His birth. His teachings had everything to do with the right way we ought to live as we drift towards building a relationship with Him and our creator.

Jesus came as a symbol of love from the father, God, who is in heaven. God sent his son to this filthy world, to love, lead, give life and die so that we might live.

The reason for his coming was to redeem all people from the wrath of the justice of God, which demanded blood from the sinner.

When Jesus Christ died on the cross, he died for everyone. Before Jesus came, the wages of sin were death.  If one sinned, that person had to die.

There was no opportunity to say sorry and turn away from sin.  The birth of Jesus brought hope for all of us, it then qualified you and me for the love of God and eternal life.  Christmas is the most important holiday for us because it reminds us of how we were redeemed.

We therefore ought to redeem others who are in trouble, that we can solve in our different capacities during Christmas. That way, Christmas will mean something to somebody.

The love for fellow men and women should symbolize your next Christmas.

Our hearts should be full of gratitude and mercy. Our hearts need to be thankful for we were shown mercy and we should also show others mercy as we are products of mercy.

The best way to celebrate Christmas is through giving love. Love can only be love when there is a gift involved. God’s demonstration of love was through giving His son to the world.

Your demonstration of love should be through giving as well. You are not giving from the abundance of your coffers but you are giving from the abundance of the generosity of your heart.

It does not matter what you are going to give, it is not in the amount you have to give but it is in the attitude and intention to make someone happy.

A loaf of bread might be all you have to give, I promise you, a beggar on the traffic lights might be asking God for that loaf of bread.

What you see as little might be all someone needs to sail through Christmas.

Your neighbour might just need an invitation to a meal, maybe they do not have enough to feed their children, moreso on Christmas day.  Some of you went out to party and danced to man of the moment Mambo Dhuterere’s songs, or Alick Macheso’s “Ngaibake”.

It was nice to party with relatives and friends. We must also remember our parents.

They have been through thick and thin for us and it will be painful if they are left to celebrate alone. It is always better for their children to gather around them and dance with them, spoil them in every possible way.

Also, surprise someone who has wronged you by sending them a gift of love or even a letter of forgiveness and reunion.

It is time to mend broken relationships and forgive those that would have wronged us.

During the 2020 Christmas, forgive and forget about all that. Walk up to those you used to hate and show them some love.

Dial their number and say something nice. Send them a text message. It will touch their hearts and give them hope for the future. It is a good thing to be an agent of positivity.

Christmas is for love, joy, giving, unity, fellowship, feasting and receiving.

Pause and reflect on the important things in your life.  Christmas is not the time to point out at all your misfortunes, it is a time to show your gratitude for all you have.

The people around you are on the list of the good things in your life. Show them love and let joy fill the air.

Quote of the Week

I will conclude by quoting W.T Ellis, “It is Christmas in the heart that puts Christmas in the air.”
