Neymar has case to answer

MADRID. – Neymar should face a trial for fraud in connection with his transfer to Barcelona, said a Spanish judge months after the case was dismissed. The case was reopened following a complaint by Brazilian investment group DIS who say they were entitled to 40 per cent of Neymar’s transfer fee when the player moved from Santos to the Spanish giants in 2013.

According to DIS, they received less compensation because the fee between the clubs was never made public.

Fraud and corruption charges have now been accepted against the player, his agent and father, Barcelona, Santos and a former president at the Brazilian club.

After Monday’s ruling, prosecutors will have 10 days to formalise their request for a trial.

Barcelona were already told to pay a fine of 5, 5m euros because of tax irregularities involving Neymar’s transfer. – AFP.
