Renowned United Kingdom-based Zimbabwean gospel singer Lewis Ngara says he is driven by passion to mentor upcoming artistes so that they can realise their potential.
Speaking from his UK base, Ngara told The Herald Arts that he desired to see young talented artistes who lack exposure realise their dreams.
“My heart’s desire is to see more young musicians who lack resources to record their music and make it in the music industry. With the years of experience I have in music, I am imparting skills and knowledge to others who need it,” he said.
So far, Ngara has assisted over 25 musicians financially to record their music and some of them include Gwinyai Maphosa aka Gwimbo, Nyasha Nhandara, Rosa Muza, Blessing Manzvimbo, Kudakwashe Parimwa and Daniel Gonora.
As part of his philanthropic work, he also sponsored a number of collaborations, chief among them is the one that featured Ras Caleb and Mr Favour.
Another collaboration featured Dorcas Moyo, Bethany Ngolomi, Obert Chari, Praise Goveya and Sandra Chirenje and Forget Kuweyo.
He said he has been advising the youthful musicians to be disciplined and to work hard to attain fame.
“Nowadays people want to get everything fast, but I urge upcoming musicians to be focused, remain disciplined in business and in character and to be patient if they want to become great people,” he said.
“Patience and perseverance pay off if one really wants to succeed in life and in career.”
Ngara, who now has 10 albums under his belt, is doing well in the industry and has earned himself numerous awards.
He has done a number of collaboration tracks with other renowned gospel musicians such as Mathias Mhere on the single “Kwatabva Kure” and Trymore Bande on the song titled “It Is Well – Kuipa Kwasukika”.
He also sings with his wife Tau Ngara in many projects.
Tau has a number of solo singles that are popular locally such as “Usarase Tariro”, “Ndinatsei”, “Suku NaSai” and “Ndizvo Here”.
Recently, Lewis ventured into the comedy industry and featured on a skit called “Shavi Rechipfambi Kana Rakubata” which carries some moral lessons to married couples.
Ngara, who was raised in Mhondoro, is also a qualified school teacher and has recently joined the nursing profession.
He started singing in his childhood and later enhanced his musical skills further at Nyadire Teachers College in Mutoko.
Ngara hogged the limelight with his debut album “Ngariyende” in 2006, which was followed up by “Handichatamba naSatani” (2007), “Jesus is Calling ” (2013), “Love Jesus”, “Ndisiye Ndisiye” (2016), “Regai Zvikurirane” (2018) and “Ndiri Mukundi” (2019).
