Zimbabwe will look to carry the momentum from their historic Test triumph into the upcoming One-Day International series against Bangladesh, with stand-in captain Richard Ngarava backing the Chevrons’ fast-bowling unit to once again lead the charge.
The Chevrons head into the ODI series buoyed by a landmark one-off Test victory that secured Zimbabwe’s first-ever back-to-back Test series wins.
However, they face a Bangladesh side eager to avenge that defeat in the 50-over format.
Ngarava credited Zimbabwe’s pace attack for laying the foundation of the historic success.
“We’ve got a nice pack of bowlers – champion bowlers. The results speak for themselves, and the hard work the boys have put in got us to where we are now,” he said.
Despite the achievement, Ngarava stressed that Zimbabwe’s progress has been built on teamwork rather than individual performances.
“In every sport you play as a unit. Everyone contributed, and that’s what brought us to where we are. We must not forget the hard work the boys have put in over the past few months.”
He believes the team’s ability to produce different match winners will be crucial against a Bangladesh side expected to respond strongly.
“It’s important to develop those habits. We identify who’s having a good day, that player takes the team forward and everyone else supports him.”
Ngarava also praised emerging seamer Newman Nyamhuri’s development and reserved special tribute for Blessing Muzarabani, who became Zimbabwe’s third-highest Test wicket-taker during the Bangladesh match.
“Blessing is a champion bowler, and we expect him to keep going.”
Looking ahead, Ngarava believes Zimbabwe’s knowledge of home conditions could again prove decisive.
“We know our conditions better. We just need to bowl as many good balls as we can, while setting the right example for the youngsters watching us.”
