NGEZI Platinum Stars moved to within two points of log leaders Highlanders to set the stage alive for an exciting second half of the season following their win over Triangle.
But it was a disappointing story for giants Dynamos who, once again, failed to take advantage of Bosso’s slip up after the Bulawayo giants were beaten for the first time this season, in a 2-0 defeat to defending champions FC Platinum.
Nine points still separate the giants, with three matches played in the second half of the season.
Playing 24 hours after knowing about Bosso’s fate, Dynamos still failed to find the back of the nets in a goalless draw against new boys Simba Bhora at Barbourfields on Sunday.
This kind of inconsistency was the reason they sacked Hebert Maruwa.
Third-placed Manica Diamonds also disappointed in a 1-1 home draw with Herentals at Gibbo. Bosso still lead the race with 41 points. Manica Diamonds are on 36 while DeMbare are a further behind on 33 points, after 20 games.
But things are looking up for Ngezi Platinum Stars whose forward Bruno Mtigo ended a prolonged run without scoring a goal, which had stretched to over nine months.
The 28-year-old scored on Saturday as his side eased to a 3-0 win over struggling Triangle United at Baobab.
Mtigo had not scored for Madamburo since October 1 at the same venue.
And, he managed to shrug off this poor run in what was his second start.
He earned his first start last weekend against CAPS United when he made a dreadful miss without the goalkeeper in sight.
But, he was impressive when they outclassed the Sugar Boys with some industrious play.
He was, however, stretchered off after a nasty collision with his markers.
Fortunately, Mtigo is not in any danger and is expected to train with the rest of the squad from today.
Ngezi Platinum coach Takesure Chiragwi could not have asked for a better time to get Mtigo firing.
Mtigo is now expected to sharpen the team’s upfront which has Takunda Benhura and Tinotenda Murasiranwa.
The former Shabanie Mine man, conceded that the goal drought gave him some sleepless nights.
“It was a difficult period for me and everyone who believes in my abilities but I knew that I was going to make it right at some point.
“This goal has come as a relief for me in many ways and I am also grateful to the coach for showing patience and I hope this is the start of better things.
“I’m going to try my best to help the team to get where it needs to be and just like any other player, I’m going to keep on pushing to also score more goals,” said Mtigo.
