IN-FORM Ngezi Platinum maintained their unbeaten run in the Northern Region Division One soccer league when they dismissed Darwin 1-0 at Baobab to consolidate their pole position on the log table.
The Platinum Boys are yet to lose a match after 16 games with one game left before the mid-season break.
Thembinkosi Simango’s goal in the second half was all Ngezi needed to maintain their unbeaten run in the Northern Region.
Ngezi Platinum coach Clifton “Somalia” Kadurira said although they came out winners, their opponents Darwin proved to be a tough side.
“The game was okay and Darwin is a good side, they stretched us but we emerged winners of that game.
“We were missing three of our regular guys — Innocent Sokosi, Terrence Dzukamanja and George Muzota. They did not play because of injuries and it had some impact on our side because these are the guys that we have been using all along,” said Kadurira.
Kadurira said they have had a positive start to their campaign this year but noted that it’s too early to talk about the championship.
“We have played well. We have an unbeaten run and we are trying to collect maximum points in as many games as possible. We are trying our level best to maintain the momentum and it’s all through hardwork and team work.
“Everyone is hungry for success but we still have many games to play. We are there to challenge for the championship, so we are trying our best to collect maximum points,” said Kadurira.
Ngezi Platinum were promoted into the Northern Region Division One soccer league last year and they finished fifth on the log table at the end of the season. So far they have had a remarkable run as they have won 11 of their 16 games and drew five.
And if they can maintain the momentum in the second half of the season, they are likely to earn the ticket for promotion into the Premiership.
In a match played yesterday Karoi United beat Starbill 2-0. They got their goals from Dickson Kondo and Levison Selusi in the in the second half.
