Innocent Muchochomi in Ngezi
Ngezi Platinum 1-0 Triangle
FARAI Madanhanga’s sole goal against winless Triangle United lifted Ngezi Platinum Stars to the top of the Zimbabwe Castle Premier Soccer League standings, following a goalless draw between MWOS FC and FC Platinum on Saturday.
In a match Triangle United will regret, as they missed several clear chances, Madanhanga rose to head in a corner delivered by Ashwin Karengesha in the 69th minute, triggering celebrations at Baobab Stadium on Saturday
As newcomers to the league, Triangle remains without a win, struggling with a poor conversion rate and being thwarted by the impressive Ngezi goalkeeper, Darlington Murasiranwa, who denied them a goal in their fourth consecutive loss.
Despite the defeat, Triangle’s coach, Luke Masomere, praised his players’ performance but expressed his disappointment over their inability to score.
“It was a good performance from the boys, both offensively and defensively. If we had utilised the chances we created, we could have won this game, but we need to work on our conversion rate,” he stated.
Ngezi’s coach, Takesure Chiragwi, attributed his team’s victory to their fighting spirit and noted that their loss of form was likely due to the international break.
“We didn’t start well today. We began at a slow pace, and even our passing game was off—probably because of the break,” he explained.
Although Ngezi is still undefeated, Chiragwi emphasised that it is too early to discuss their chances of clinching the league championship. However, he is pleased with how they have started the season.
“I’m happy that we began this year on a high note, unlike in previous seasons. What is important at this early stage is to build confidence in our players and ensure we win games
